It's been a long, windy winter and I finally got out Sunday for several hours. During the long boring winter I was bored so I motorized our two kayaks. What a blast they are...probably covered 10-12 miles Sunday and got in a lot of extra fishing
Here's the new, improved, super speed model at my dock:
Wife loves her's too!!!!
Runs like a charm for many hours:

Not sure of the speed, Shep but it sure opened up a lot more water for me on Sunday. I live on the Indian River in Titusville and I fished all the way down to NASA Causeway, back up to Titusville Bridge...was out from 8 a.m. to around 3 p.m. Now that wasn't constant motoring, I'd get where I wanted to fish and turn it off as reds are smart enough to run from a trolling motor and I'd drift a lot.
There is a great spot right across the river from me but way too far to paddle....I did that run in 45 min. on speed 3 out of 5. Won't take the motor everywhere but it sure works when I just want to leave the dock and the fishing holes are several miles away with no place to launch near them.
Great set up. Are you using stock trolling motors or shortening the shafts? Where did you find the brackets? Do you control direction with the motors or are rudders necessary?
I bought the motors stock at Basspro...30" for $95 on sale. they're the fresh water version - a lot cheaper than the salt water ones...friend has had one on his dingy for over 7 years without a problem
found the bracket on the web for $50...same bracket sells at Basspro for near $100.
Use the rudder for steering as the placement of the trolling motor (near center) wants the motor to push the kayak sideways instead of turning it.
Can't believe how much more water opened up to me because there is definetely a shortage of launch spots for yaks and canoes along the river! Now I can just motor to them.
TX for the info. I might try your setup if I can find the bracket. Not sure how I'm gonna hanedle directional control as neither of my yaks is set up with a rudder. I like to fish down in Sebastian and some of the excursions really are tough, especially if the wind bares it's ugly head!!!
Very cool Bob. I have an electric motor just sitting in my garage for about 4 years waiting for just such an opportunity. Of course, I recently sold my 8' walker bay dinghy with a 2 1/2 merc motor! Time for another toy!
